JOHN HARRIS

John was born in London in 1940 and evacuated to Wales where he spent his childhood. After graduation from the College of Art in Cardiff he joined the teaching profession and held senior appointments both at home and abroad.

After returning from Malawi he embarked on a second career as a full time professional artist in the U.K. having built up a considerable following abroad. John has not forgotten his overseas fans and has held successful exhibitions in Malawi, Australia, South Africa, and the Middle East.

His watercolours generally feature the rich landscape around the English/Welsh border, with wooded paths and river banks dominating the scenes. He builds up the image with washes and layers of subtle tones to generate the complex texture of leafy trees or grasses. Perhaps his most popular paintings include the motif of a carpet of bluebells on the forest floor - the vibrant blue singing out from the enveloping countless greens.

John has exhibited at a number of Galleries in England and Wales, including the open exhibition of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and has exhibited at the Shell House Gallery for the past eight years where his beautiful watercolours of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire countryside are always popular.
